Kantha quilts originate from Bangladesh. Women in this area have practiced Kantha embroidery since ancient times, using discarded cloth to make a blanket using a straight running stich that is central to Bengali. The quilts you see today have evolved but still have the same belief behind them - that the re-used cloth has protective qualities. The quilts are made from discarded fabric, including used saris, stitched together using the running stitch mentioned above.
Your Kantha quilt can be used in so many ways; drape it over your bed, sofa or chair to add a real pop of colour, sit on it to brighten up a picnic or use it simply as a blanket to keep you warm in the winter months in front of the tv or outside in the summer evenings when the sun dips.
This one is lovely and light.
